There are several products that do this, some are better than others, or said a better way, they all seem to have their little quirks.

The first device I purchased (Several Years Ago) is called a Cell Socket. It actually connects directly to the phone and can interface with several different phones as well. (But it takes a different one for each brand of Cell.)

The latest version (WHPWIRELESS Model 5161N) that I still use with my Antique NOKIA 6190 (At times) gave caller ID and recognized switch hook flash to answer a Call Waiting Call. Once in a while however, I have to re-seat the phone in the cradle to make it work. When I really want to use it, I make sure it will ring through by making a test call.

The Next one I tried was a BLUETOOTH Device, which is handy, called "Dock N Talk A 100 with Bluetooth Module Bt01".

Well, I couldn't get it to work correctly with my Iphone. I spoke with their tech support and they informed me the VERSION of Firmware wasn't new enough, and I would need a BT02, instead of the BT01 to work with my Iphone.

So, I sold it to a buddy, and he uses it with his RAZR.

The last one I bought was a "PMC U118 Bluetooth Cellular Gateway". It works with both my Iphone and my new SIDEKICK 2008.

It has limited capabilities, (No Call Waiting SWHK Flash). However, I also spoke with their support folks and they assured me they will be coming out with a "GEE WHIZ" version later this year.

There are a couple of more brands out there I think, but I have not looked at them.

Merlinman - what would you use these devices for?

I use mine as a 3rd Line on my Magix System. This way, I can answer my Cell when it rings any where I have System Phone.

I can use my Cell Phone without having to drag it around with me.

Until I got my VOIP Line with Free Long Distance, it was also used for LD.

Having 3 lines is handy if I am talking to a Tech or Client on one line, Dialed into a system on the other line, and need to make a test call.

I determined that since I am paying for it, I may as well put it to work.

THey also make gateways from multitech. they get assigned a cell number and you can make calls out of them. works great for a company that dispatches techs or has a lot of people with cell phones because you can take advantage of the free cell to cell calls and it will attach to a line or station port. you can get them to work with most cell carriers out there.

Well, yes, I know about those as well.

But when you leave your office, You can't just stick it in your pocket and use it down the road.

That could be an option for sure if you don't need a handset.

Kwing112000,

Do you happen to remember the model number for the multitech?

Mike

I am not sure. there are a few differetn ones depending on who the cell carrier is.
