how to make a moving mask ??

Hi !

Is there an easy way to make a mask that will follow a certain
image on the screen (say I have a football player running across the screen and I want to mask out the background).

I know I can do it by animating the mask frame by frame but I was wondering if there was a quicker way of doing this..

Unfortunately, you'll have to continue moving it by hand for now, unless you purchase Silhouette Roto for AE.

Breshnev Shu had a (now obsolete) jsx tracker for splines.

Silhouette Roto is a standalone which will also merge into After Effects.

There is an older software from Pinnacle (I don't know if you can still get it) which was called COMMOTION which allowed for rotoscoping.
