How to make a hyperlink to a movie in Windows Media Player?

I have a movie in the computer's DVD player. Windows Media Player 11 is open but it's not currently playing the movie.

I want to make a hyperlink in PowerPoint that will make WMP start playing the movie at a specific point, like a bookmark.

Can this be done? if it cannot be done with media Player, is there another player you would recommend?

I'm on Win XP SP3, Office 2003 SP3, Win Media player 11.

I found I can do Insert | Object | Windows Media Player. I can specify to play from the DVD Player but I cannot set the precise point in the movie that I want to play. I right click the inserted object, go to properties, double click the Custom property, go to Advanced tab. I see two properties that should do what I want, Current position and Current Marker. I enter 500.000 for Current Position and 2 for Current marker. I believe it should start 500 seconds into chapter two. But, it doesn't; it always wants to start atthe beginning with the FBI warnings. When I go back to check the settings, the numbers I entered in those two fields have been reset back to zero.

Any odeas?

Hi,
Some DVDs (and maybe some playback software) do not have the ability ( or settings when recorded) to mark places ( like chapters) - Can you go to specific chapters on that DVD with MediaPlayer? Do you have any other embeddable DVD playing software to test?

I have Intervideo WinDVD, but I don't know how to embed that type of file in PowerPoint.

I can go to the next chapter in the movie by clicking the skip button. Does that count? Maybe markers are not the same as chapters? I don't know a lot about multimedia, I just keep Googling ad trying stuff until something works. I think my problem is that the DVD is a regular one, you know, all VOB inside a TS_VIDEO folder. Maybe if it was an .MPG I could skip through and go to a specific point in time?

I wasn't able to do this. I ended up ripping the DVD and cutting individual clips. I'm updating this thread in case someone comes up with a solution.

I think you should cut your video to the specific point and then insert the video into your PPT. Or you can make several pages of PPT and put different clips into different pages. Then make hyperlinks between them.
Here is an article about how to insert a clip into a powerpoint with pictures. You can check it.
