Hello,

I am looking to make a forum like this one. Anyone know where I should start?

Are there any templates for forums on the net I can use?
And when I say templates I mean one which I cannot get sued by the owner!

Thanks

Forums need server side scripting and a database to work. Here are some really good, ready made, free forums:

Rick if(($question=="has been bugging me"
AND $answer=="fixed the problem") OR $answer=="really good post"){
print("Star");
}else{
print("Thanks.");
}

Thanks Ristmo,

Is it completely legal to use these templates for Business
purposes?

I don't know. If you click on the link, you can goto the website. You can email the owner if you want to be sure.

On the page I posted, beside the forum you want, there will be a link underneath it that says either:
General Public License or
Freely Distributable or
Free for Non-Comercial Use.

I don't know what all those names mean, but maybe you can figure it out. I do know that all the forums are free to download and install.

Rick if(($question=="has been bugging me"
AND $answer=="fixed the problem") OR $answer=="really good post"){
print("Star");
}else{
print("Thanks.");

Ristmo2001,

Thanks for the advice. I need some more help though. I choose a forum to download and I appears to be legal. However I am confused about the Installing Instructions. The main file in the install.php file. They said in the instructions upload the php file and then use the web browser run the install.php script??? How do you use the web browser to run the file? I mean does the index.html file play a role in this?

Please am really comfused.

Thanks

Just an FYI, webmonkey.com has a pretty good three part tutorial on PHP/mySQL... you should have a look.

Wullie,

Its me again, I actually uploaded the install.php file to my web site, my web site is actually
So I uploaded it.. then I went on a web page and typed:

But all I got was a message asking me to download the install.php file.. which makes no sense.. but I doawloaded it (just to see if anything magical would happen :)).. but nothing happened!

What am I doing wrong... ????

Yo Wullie,

Thanks man!

You know any free sites that support PHP off hand?

Thanks for the help mate!

Hi mate,

The only one I know of is Portland, but I personally would not recommend it. I had loads of problems with them in the past, possibly they may be better now.

You should consider a paid hosting plan with a company that offer PHP, CGI etc..

Hope this helps Wullie
