Hi,
I have autoloader which I use for backups. Is there any way in which to unload one tape and upload the next tape programatically, instead of doing it manually?

I do the backups through a cron job, but I still have to come in the next day to upload the next tape.

Any help will be greately appreciated.

Krishani.

most tape changers have jumper settings that you can set to automatically load the next tape when the previous one is taken offline, so that is where i would start looking.

I suggest you to use Amanda backup software(open source software).
You can control your autoloader tape from Amanda.
Amanda also have crontab sample to help you to do daily backup.
Good luck
