Product: Netbackup 4.5, Solaris 8, L9 Tape loader, 200GB Tapes

1. Does anyone know how to get a listing of the tapes currently in the robot using the command line? I can inventory the robot from the GUI but can't find a command for the command line.

2. How can I tell what tape will be used for a backup?

3. How do I tell NetBackup to use a specific tape for the catalog?

Thanks,
Yowza

1. /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/goodies/available_media

This is a script you can run this to find the media.

2. I really didn't get this question..
Even you can find the solution to this question with the same script above.

3. I also looking desparately for this pl let me know if you come accross.

1. command for inventorying library is vmcheckxxx
to get information on this command use:
# /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/vmcheckxxx -help
# man vmcheckxxx
EXAMPLE:
to get a listing of tld library #0 use the following syntax
# vmcheckxxx -rt tld -rn 0 -full

2.This topic is covered in the System Admin Guides for all versions of NetBackup. The documents are on the CD's and are also available online:

3. The catalog configuration GUI allows you to select tape or disk media to use for the catalog backups for system generated catalog backups. If you want to backup the catalog via the command line I suggest reading this technote:

How to configure and backup NetBackup catalogs from command line.

Hi stumpr,

Thank you very much this has helped me...
Great man
All the Best..

I use the command line all the time:

vmcheckxxx -rt tld -rn <Actual Robotics number> -rh <Media Server> -h <master server> –full

I even update the robot from the command line if it is not correct by using:

vmupdate -rt tld -rh <Robot host> -h <master server> -full -outvolgrp --- -involgroup <
Group you want the tapes in e.g. 00_018_TLD> -p <pool>

Thanks Stumpr and PGPhantom. I appreciate the help!!
