I have an excel spreadsheet with one column (number/letter) and have successfully converted to Crystal Reports. Now what I need to do is link this table with an existing table and retrieve information based on both tables.

When I link the two, I get an error msg stating that they are different "types". I see both types a strings and cannot figure out how to work this. Hope this made sense.

Excel is a horrible data source as it implicitly types the data based on the first row.

Go into each spreadsheet and insert a false row at the start which clearly defines the data type.

Now you can eliminate this row within the report based on some unique criteria.

Now this may sound dumb since I am new at this but you say the false row will clearly define the data type... How do I know how to define it?
