Ladies & Gentlemen,
I am having a problem with a "lingering" IP address after terminating a connection with AOL.
I am connecting with AOL via a private broadband network on which I normally use a static IP, eg., 127.111.111.111. When I connect to AOL, a PPP adapter is installed and it is bound to an AOL IP, say 172.123.123.123.
After the connection is terminated, it seems that the AOL IP address attempts to bind with my physical MAC address. This is interpreted as "spoofing" by the network firewal, since the firewall knows that my MAC address corresponds to 127.111.111.111 and not 172.123.123.123.
I have my network administrator on my case threatening to disconnect me from the network for causing spoofing.
I called AOL and they didn't have a clue how to solve it.
It seems like there should be a way to kill the AOL IP address as soon as the connection is terminated.
Does anyone know how to do it?
I am using AOL version 7 and Windows 2000.
Thanks!
