How to keep "fx" option closed up?

Hi, Using winxp and PSCS3.

when applying special function to say text with the "fx" button by the others (layer,mask, adj. layer etc.), say applying the drop shawdow, the layer portion by default shows the special function applied.....and its specially annoying f there are a 2-3-4 affects applied as each one and it fully shows what there,having to push the little arrow to consolidate.

how can it be adjusted where if I wanted to see the effect, I would push the arrow (to keep thing tidy and neat)/

...yep, turn this option off:

...flyout menu of the layer palette > pallette options > expand new effects...
