Hello,

I have a windows 2000 server in a AD domain and the controller is a windows 2003 server. Can I use windows 2000 server to be a backup domain contoller, dns, and AD ?

Could you please advise how should I do it ?

Thank you.

Depends. What mode do you have Active Directory in? If it's in Native Mode (2003) then no. Otherwise, yes. Run DCPROMO and install the other services.

Since the role of Backup Domain Controller is for NT domains, no you can't do that. You can of course run DCPROMO to make the member server a Domain Controller in the Windows 2003 Domain. However you may want to excercise caution. If you currently have only 2003 DCs and also use Exchange 2003, then doing this could break your ability to use Outlook over HTTP.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark
