folks,

I jsut built a NT4 server off line. How do I put it on to the network and have it join the existing domain?

Thanks,

BMW

I will point you in the right direction. But this question is a bit open ended. You will have to read up on the subject a little bit. :)

Before you begin you will need to have domain admin access. So I presume your network is running IP. Get a static IP address from your network guys. They should also tell you the subnet mask and default gateway. Put all the IP details into your network config. Again, if your not sure ask the network guys! Also the server should be a BDC or member server. You can only have 1 PDC per domain.
Ok, you now have the server on the network. Log in as the administrator. Right click on network neigbourhood. Click properties. On the identification tab click the change button. Ensure the computer name is correct and is also working to the rules of your network naming convention. Next, click the domain button and type in the name of the domain you wish this server to be added to. Then click the check box that says "Create a computer account in the domain". Under that type in that domains admin account and password. Click ok. You should get a welcome message.

Phew! That should do it. You should get yourself a good book. Inside windows NT server 4.0 or similar. Get a reference manual not a "how do I pass this exam book".

If you have problems relating to this then post them up. Give as much information as possible and I will try and point you in the right direction. :)

Have fun.
