I have turned some text to outlines - wanting to join the paths created for each of the letters together - but Illustrator keeps refusing to let me join the paths - giving me the "must be part of the same group, not on a text path etc etc" error box...

In Ill 8.0 I would avoid this by un-grouping, cutting the objects and repasting, I was then able to join them. I can't seem to get CS to accept that though
... can anyone tell me what I'm not doing to make this work? I do not want to have to redraw each letter.

Cheers,
anna

Anna:

To combine paths that belong to different glyphs, you'll have to release the compound paths as well as ungrouping them... Then you should not have any more problems. You will have to keep an eye on the "o" type glyphs, they'll lose the donut hole so you'll have to correct that later.
