How to install

I am Linux novice.

I am trying to install Internet connection (for whole month) and without any success. I have Xircom 10/100 ehternet card, cable modem PCX2600 and Road Runner. I can't see any reason why it won't work. My Linux distribution is Fedora Core 3. In network setup I see ehternet card and it is inactive. If I click activate button, I get message that IP address cannot be found. I am not sure does PCX2600 work with Linux, and I couldn't find anything about PCX2600 with Linux.
I maybe need to install drivers for ethernet card. I downloaded drivers (3 files): vol.000.000, vol.000.000.files, and vol.000.000.sum and now I don't know how to install these. Please somebody help me.

On the internet I saw somewhere that I have to use "SCO" and to run "custom command" ???? So, what is the SCO and how I run this "custom command". Just in case -)) I typed: sco, custom, etc... into shell hoping something will happen.... and gess what.... nothing...... please help.....

Hm. OK.

You need to get the NIC running first. Mostly likely the command you need to "service network start" on FC3. That should work IF your NIC was detected during installation.

On boot, "bringing up eth0" always gives me FAILED. NIC is recognized by Linux during OS installation as Xircom 10/100 ethernet card. Should I trust this? Maybe I should try manualy to install NIC? (and I don't know how to do that...)

Any word on how to deal with those vol.000 files?

man lscpi

lspci
lspci -n

and search for your nic cardin internet. (with the pci number/model)
