I would like to stream line the printer setup process on our Win 7 laptops.
Like when using Xp, just right click on the printer and click connect.
Can this be done. I have the drivers and the process is tedious and slow from in the win 7 machine.

TIA

when you install the printer driver on the server and share it out cant you select the operating systems you want to load the drivers for?

Do you have a print server that you use, or just add the printer to the local Windows 7 pc?

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

Its actually a Ricoh MP6501 copier /printer/scanner
is has its own IP 10.10.9.13
our server is 10.10.9.8
all computers are 10.10.9.xxx
if I use remote desktop to go in the server and go in Printer manager? in the Manage your server?
the printer shows up, I made it a local printer on the server.
if I am at a Windows XP computer, and in a command prompt and type \\ourServerName
a window pops up, with the servers shares. I can see the printer and others we have. I can right click on the Ricoh and click connect. and it prints 10 seconds later. its getting the XP drivers from the server.

on the server in manage printers,I could see all the printer drivers in a list. every printer we ever had and still have is in there. can I add the windows 7 driver in there somehow?
I want to be at a windows 7 computer (they are 32bit), then go to type \\ourServerName , when the window pops up
right click connect and have that do the same as an XP machine?

yes on the server in the printers menu right click the printer and select properties. when the properties window opens up click on sharing and you should have a button for additional driver. thats where you can assign them.
