how to install plugin

I have no clue and would very much appreciate any help someone could provide on how to generally install a plugin for gimp. Specifically i wanted to install the mosaic one from the regristry and also the help files are giving me problems.
i don't even know what a gz file is

Can you post a link to the plugin and the documentation so that I can see whay you are trying to do?
A .gz file is a file that is a "tar" archive of files that is also zipped with a tool called gzip.
You can usually extract the files from a .gz with a command like this:

tar zxf filename.gz

Trojan.

Most windows unzip programs can also handle gzip files too. If yours can't, get a different one.
