I have a compaq DeskPro EN series. I'll like to install Solaris 8 on this machine, what do I do. I'm new to Unix, is there any way to boot the cd? Is there a boot disk for intel machine to work with solaris?

I assume you have a copy of Solaris 8 for Intel machines? If so your installation guides should tell you what to do.

If not, post back and we'll try to help.

Greg.

the solaris 2.8 x86 Intel edition software is 5-6 CD's. I installed one just yesterday. The trickiest part can be finding the correct NIC and video drivers. I use basic Dell Dimension machines usually w 3com NIC's. If your NIC happens to be a common 3Com 3C905C you will have to add entries in /etc/driver_aliases and /boot/solaris/devicedb/master

The 1rst CD in the set should be bootable. Make sure your boot order in bios tries cdrom before hard disk and it should work.
