Hi folks,

we're trying to install an mksysb tape on a machine with another hardware architecture.

Problem is, that we have no idea why the system isn't updating the different hardware automatically from cdrom, when we perform the installation...

We've been trying it via booting from cdrom and then doing an install from mksysb tape as well as entering the sms menu at startup and choosing installation via mksysb tape...

What's wrong?

Regards
Thomas

Hi,

The basic idea of mksysb is for the SAME architecture.

In case of a different one - one should install from scratch from an AIX CD,letting the system to install the correct drivers. "Long live king Moshiach !"

Usually I use sysback to restore a machine into another, but the feeling is the same:
1º.- You have to boot the target machine into maintenance mode, with a bootable tape or cd.
2º.- Start a shell and access to this target system
3º.- Go to /tmp and search a file called device.pkgs
4º.- These are the minimun device software to start this machine.
You have to copy this information to fd0 or manually.
Once you boot the target system in normal mode, you will not see this file.
5º.- Install that software on the source machine
6º.- Perform the migration to the target machine as usual
