Hellow everyone,

I just wanted started out my saying that I am a PC user and I want to give MAC a tried. We have a MAC Laptop at work and I would like to learn how to install MAC OS X on there.

Does anyone have links a link that will show you the step by step guide to installing MAC OS X on the laptop. I want to wipe it clean and put a fresh OS on there.

Thanks for reading this post.

Assuming that the laptop meets the system requirements, simply insert the OSX system CD.

That's it? you just pop in the CD's and it will automatically boot from there? Sound too easier to be true, I know I will run into some problem. aheheeh

Also, I am comtemplating on buying a used copy of the O.S. Is there any draw back to doing that?

Thanks for you input.

This is how most any OS installer CD works (Windows, Linux, etc). The CD installer will prompt you with whether or not you want to add the OS to an existing OS9 or if you want to install from scratch.

Buying used software is rarely ideal. Many used copies are really pirated: why pay for stolen goods? Good luck if you can find a legitimate used copy.

Depending on the BIOS in the laptop hardware, you may need to hold down the "C" key while booting to force it to load from the CD-ROM.

Welcome on the noble and straight MacOS!

. Mac for productivity
.. Linux for developement
... Windows for solitaire

You need to boot to the cd then on the top left drop down and choose disk utility. This is the place to make partitions. You want to do a format with journaling (Helps when it crashes to go back to state before crash). Formatting will mark bad sectors. OSX I found will give spinning wheel of death if bad sectors pop up on system files or indexes. Then just follow the instructions the cd gives you. Easy enough.
