How to install emacs editor

hi there,
can someone help me or point me to a good site that explains how to install emacs. I have tried installing but am unable to do so on solaris 9 because of a compilation error. how do i check that my system is configured correctly for gcc or cc? I would like a precompiled version, if one exists and tips on how to set it in the path of all users so they can use it.

Perhaps try the emacs-21.1 package for Solaris 8 on

They don't appear to have one for Solaris 9 yet, but the one for Solaris 8 may work. Annihilannic.
