Hi All!

I need help from you guys !

I need to install cd-writer for taking backups of my sco openserver 5.0.5. Can some one describe the procedure for the same ?

Thanks In Advance
Rajesh K. Bahl

You would install it just like a cdrom.
However, you will need a tool to write to it, such as:

cdrecord (part of cdrtools),
or one of the super tars that support cd/dvd writing
(lonetar, backupedge, etc)

As far as I know with SCO 5.05 you can only use a SCSI based CDRW. Goto the SCO skunkworks site and look for two programs called mkisofs and cdrecord. Please read the readme files on both on how to set up the CDRW. Once cdrecord and mkisofs programs are installed you will need to add them to your paths portion of the .profile file.

If you have any other questions, pls post them and I will try to help.

BTW a good place to get info is at:

rajeshbahl, feel free to do a keyword search in this forum for cdrecord.
Hopefully you're not talking about an IDE CD-Writer, as you're playing with 5.0.5

Hope This Help, PH.

Dear Rajesh,
Look at new version 2.0 of backup Edge which has support for CDrom writer. You can download it for a 60 day
trial before registering it for use and pay for it. I hope that this will help.
Sincerely,
Hershey
