how to install an stl lib on solaris with gnu compiler ?

I was hoping that someone else would help, but here goes:
Why don't you just upgrade your gcc compiler totally. I wouldn't get 2.96 yet, I'd get 2.95 and use that. They're avalible at ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gcc or something like that, and you can just build a whole new one. Is there a problem with this?
