Hi,

Does the printer have a JetDirect card? If so proceed as follows:

1. Launch NetWare Administrator.
2. Create a printer object (i.e. pr_<printer_name>)
Use queue based not NDPS based.
3. Create a Print Queue object (i.e. pq_<printer_name>)
4. Create a Print Server object (i.e. ps_<printer_name>)
5. Assign the Printer object to the Print server object.
6. Assign the Print Queue object to the Printer Object.
7. Launch HP JetAdmin
8. Configure the JetDirect card, using the Print server object you created in step 4 above.
9. Print a test page.

Hi.
Obviously, you should follow Lou's procedures to make sure that you can get the darn thing working.

If you want to take advantage of the next generation printing, you'll want to set up NDPS. Novell has instructions on their documentation site ------------

Hi
I am a newbie to NW6, where can i find the server administrator?

Hi Howsday,

I hope I am understanding your question correctly. I'm assuming your looking for the NetWare Administrator utility. If so, it is SYS\Public\win32\nwadmn32.exe, but in the NetWare 6 world you must use ConsoleOne located at SYS\Public\mgmt\consoleone\1.2\bin\ConsoleOne.exe.

I would recommend that you copy the whole ConsoleOne directory to your "C" drive and run it from there. It runs much faster from there.

I have no real world experience with NW6 but if this is an HP printer with a JetDirect card and you run JetAdmin or Web JetAdmin from the driver CD it comes with (or download from HP), this will create all the necessary objects for you automatically. I shouldn't do this, but I assume other network type printers have a similar configuration software available that will do the very same thing.

I always push for NDPS printing.. It's much easier to manage, install, and configure than queue based printing. Plus, I've always had mixed results with HP Jetadmin utilities. Sometimes they work but when they don't work it's a pain in the butt.

NDPS is a breeze.
