i want to install in our office a mail server with auth option so no one can send email without authantification.

So i want idea advice or links about mail server (other than sendmail) that i can use with auth.

thanks very much

I would recommend Postfix as an alternative to Sendmail. Thats what I use. For SMTP authentication, try using Cyrus SASL along with Postfix.

thanks fluid11 a lot for answer ;)

i have found the Cyrus SASL howto, but nothink about auth with postfix.
can you give me a link ?
thanks very much

Thanks for your help, i have read the howto.

I am using redhat 7.1 when i want to download some specifique libreries listed in the howto, i have not found them :(

here is the libreries:
cyrus-imapd-devel
perl-Cyrus-IMAP
perl-Cyrus-SIEVE-acap
perl-Cyrus-SIEVE-managesieve

i had mad a search on & rpmfind.net
with no success !

thanks for all

I don't think you need to download and install every one of those. They might be included with the Cyrus IMAP package, but I'm not sure. Go ahead with the instructions and see how it goes.

By the way, you don't have to use Cyrus IMAP. Cyrus IMAP and Cyrus SASL are both standalone products. You can use any IMAP or POP server that you want, but its probably easier to use whatever the howto's author is using (at least until you get it up and working, and then you can switch if you want).

i will try installing them and post here the result very soon.

Thanks again ;))

what about pine? (or is that the same thing as Sendmail?). *New to Linux* Hope I was of some help...

No, its completely different. Sendmail is an MTA and pine is just an MUA.

Ok...I believe you, for sure. But I have no idea what you are talking about. I understand that pine and sendmail are different, but I guess it's just app specific...(am I anywhere near right?) Hope I was of some help...
