Hi folks,

I am using Netware 5.1 SP6, problem is while doing backup using Legato Networker 4.2.1 for Netware, it keeps on backing up volume VOL1: about 10 over times, knowing from somebody saying that this could due to tcp keep-alive timeout and ask to increase this value, can anyone here tell me how to increase this value ?

Thanks
Robert

The keepalive value you may be referring to might have to do with the watchdog timeout setting. The netware server checks to see if the connection is still active, if not, it drops it. However, I am not sure that this would be related to your specific problem. I would ask yourself this: Did I ever experience this problem prior to server pack 6? If you answer is no, then the problem is service pack specific. Look at Legatos website as they should have the issue documented. If the problem persisted prior to service pack 6, then I would look to Novell to help. There may be more problems than just setting a timeout setting higher (keeping in mind that this could cause the server to run slower).

Yes, I did experience this problem prior to pack6, I have another netware server without any problem prior or after pack6. Only this particular Netware having problem backing up VOL1: which is tranditional volume. Legato suggested to go for pack6 to no avail. So they are saying more related to this Netware server itself and asking me to check with Novell for help. After checking was told to increase tcp keep-alive timeout and I don't have a clue where and what should I modify to make it works, this problem server has SYS: and VOL: volume but without any problem backing up. Only VOL1: keep on backing up by itself over 19 times.

Thanks
Robert

The keep alive time-out should be in your monitor screen. Go to Monitor and if I am not mistaken there should be 'Server Settings' and its either in this screen you can increase the value or TCPCON which is another console screen you can go into.

Your next option, if I am wrong on both accounts, is to go to and do a search on TCP Keepalive and you should be able to locate a tid or two on modifying this setting.
