i would suggest outting the name first, then put it back in as new. a hundred years ago I remember the old name would somehow attach itself to the new name. Try outting it and then put it on as new.

tcomanalyst is right. It is because your xpln (expected name length) wasn't set higher when the person built the tn. if you out the name and put it back in you will be fine. when you build the name with the dn or scr etc. set your xpln high, don't enter through or it will default to whatever the current name length is.
Hope this helps.

ld 95 req:eek:ut type:name at dn prompt enter number.
ld 95 req:new type:namne at dn prompt enter number hit enter and type new name.

Outting the name first, then put it back in as new worked great.!

I havent try the
ld 95 req:eek:ut type:name at dn prompt enter number solution
provided by Nortellian but i will.!!

Im a beginner at this so i really appreciate your time on helping me.!

FYI - DFLN is set to 5. That's the default name length. Any name that has more characters than the default will cause the XPLN to be set to the number of char in the name. The only way to change the name to one with more char than the XPLN is to out the old one and put a new name in (same as was described above.)

Another way is to change the DFLN to a higher number (max is 27) allowing you to change names at will provided the number of char in the name does not exceed the value in DFLN. If it does, you must out the name and re-input it as new.

Ex:
DFLN=10
Name=Joe Louis (9 char) can be changed to John Smith (10 char) or Billy (5 char).
Name=Jane Doe (8 char) must be outed and Jennifer Lopez (14 char) must be entered as new.

DFLN=20
Name=Joe Louis (9 char) can be changed to John Smith (10 char) or Jennifer Lopez (14 char) because these names total less than 20 char.

DFLN=27 (max)
Any name can be changed at any time provided the max length does not exceed the max.

Keep in mind that higher DFLN values will use more of your system's available memory.
