Can someone please explain to me how to import text from Illustrator so that I may still be able to edit it in Pagemaker. I have tried a variety of methods, but have not had any luck. Thanks in advance.

You can't import text from Ilustrator to PM and still have it editable. You can only import graphics from AI, and the best format is as EPS.

If all else fails COPY and PASTE the text from Illustrator to PM.

I don't think even this works - I'm sure I tried that once and I still couldn't select the characters. But it may have been an older version of AI. If it doesn't work (and there's no harm in trying), I'm wondering if you copy and paste into Word first, then from Word you can go to PM.

Well it doesn't work from Illustrator to Pagemaker...sorry, but it does work from Illustrator to Quark so yur idea about taking it to a word processing program may do the trick

However I just "exported" a text string from Illustrator to "TEXT" and then used the place feature in Pagemaker and it was editable then. Give that a try!!!

Tony hit the nail on the head. You cannot import text from Illustrator. You can, however, export text as a text file and then import it into Pagemaker and it is fully editable. I wonder if anyone knows if Indesign allows the user to copy and paste directly from Illustrator?

Yes Indesign does allow copy and paste of text from Illustrator. I just tried it!
