how to import a .dmp file

I am using oracle9i and every time I am trying to import a *.dmp file I am getting this message
Fatal NI connect error 12638, connecting to:
(DESCRIPTION=(LOCAL=YES)(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=beq)))

could anybody help on that?

Hi,
Check your Sqlnet.ora file and try commenting the line out that specifies the authentication method or setting it to NONE.
See The following details aabout authentication parameters:

SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES  
Purpose: 
 Enables one or more authentication services. If authentication has been installed, it is recommended that this parameter be set to either NONE or to one of the authentication methods. 
 
Default:  
 None 
 
Values:  
 Authentication Available with Net8: 

NONE - No authentication methods are used. A valid user name and password can be used to access the database. 

ALL - Enables all authentication methods to be used 

BEQ - Uses the Bequeath protocol 

NDS - Uses NDS authentication 

NTS - Uses Windows NT native authentication 

Example: sqlnet.authentication_services=(NTS)
