How to implement global dynamic parameters in XI?

Is there any way of applying dynamic parameters on a global basis, instead of adding the logic at each report level? We have few parameters that are always need to be on the reports.

Currently we use the APOS tool's (Dynamic parameters) that helps in managing the parameters on a global basis. From XI version, they would stop supporting the product, hence I need any alterative before migrating to XI. I don't want to open each report and add the dynamic parameterlogic. It is too much work and more prone to errors..

Any insight is appreciated.

I just returned from the XI server training and I don't think that there is a quick solution to your problem. You will need to develop a Business View that utilizes a List-of-Values object. Unfortunately, that will need to be added to each and every report, at least as far as I know. You might try reading up more on the Business Views and you might be able to find something. If you do, let me know.

Sorry,
Shawn

We make a product called SPL (Smart Pick Lists) which has been around since CE8 (and before any other dynamic parameter solution for CE ever existed).

While BOE XI / CR XI finally address dynamic parameters which is great, the way they are addressed brings with it lots of limitations.

One such limitation is the one you refer to where you have to create dynamic parameters for each report (which requires you opening each & every report to do so, please spend the time to configure the parameters for each one).

Another is that the way the cascading is implemented it isn't really true cascading (if you have 3 parameters COUNTRY|REGION|CITY with BOE XI you'll only receive 1 value back instead of 3), and a few other limitations.

BOE XI dynamic parameters also can't handle more than 1000 values. And BOE XI dynamic parameter performance is slow.

While we hope that future versions of BOE address these issues, it will take them some time.

So our SPL product will be available for BOE XI. In fact we will be releasing in a few weeks our SPL 3 product for CE9 & CE10 which adds lots of new features ( including ability to configure parameters 1 (we called it ALIASes) and apply them to multiple parameters in multiple reports. Change the ALIAS and it will automatically update all parameters in all reports using the ALIAS.

Plus we can retrieve 100,000+ values per parameter and tests have soon that we are as much as 650% faster than BOE XI dynamic parameters.

We expect to have our BOE XI edition of SPL with all the features of SPL 3 out this summer.
