Hi All,
About to apply some Microsoft patches to our 2003 servers.
One patch though comes in two flavors, one for machines with Messenger 4.7 and one for 5.1.
I have not yet found a way to determine which version is installed on the server so I will know which patch to apply.

Thoughts?
Thanks.

At my age I still learn something new every day, but I forget two others.

What Messenger are you referring to? MSN Messenger? Live Messenger? In Live Messenger, you click on the SHOW MENU button, then HELP>About.

What's the need to have Messenger on a server?

Windows Messenger which is very distinct from Live Messenger or MSN Messenger.

I found that you can search for the file msgsc.dll and check it's version, usually under Program Files\messenger.
I did not find it on any of our servers.
The 5.1 version appears to use the same dll file so I assume that it is not installed on our servers.
Version 5.1 became an optional component to install and apparently it has not been so looks like no need for those security updates on my systems.
