How to identify the highest ID of a list entry?

Hey all,

how is it possible to identify the new list entry of a document library in the OnEvent method?

Or asked in another way, how can I identify the ID of the newest list entry of a document library?
List.Items.Count can not be applied since some of the entries could be deleted.

Thanks a lot for any help!
