I am a bit confused on this matter...
If you register a domain name, on a place such as Verisign, can you change the two DNS entries to match your current IP address so your computer physically hosts the site. If so, what happens to the domain name, how does other users know of your domain name's existance? Also, where should the files be stored and how are they accessed/managed?
If anyone else has any comments/questions, feel free to add to this thread.

It works better if you plug it in.

Who ever hosts your DNS for your domain can point the to whatever IP address you want, ie. the server that hosts your web site.

As for how do you manage that server, it all depends on what server you want to run. Apache is a good bet for web hosting. For more info look at
Chris.
