Hi,
I installed Windows 7 Professional and Service Pack 1 on my laptop. Then I executed the Windows update and after a while 190!!! new updates were found. Then I left my laptop running and after 6 hours fixes were not installed yet, but I was in hurry and I need to shutdown laptop. I got "Please do not shutdown...", but I power-off the computer.

When I came to new location I turned on laptop and before Windows really started up there was some disk checking and started automatically repairing file system problems and after Windows started up there was real mess - it looks a lot of things got reverted back to some previous state of time.

Now I have wiped out Windows and installed a new copy. I didn't install updates yet, because I am cant' afford to have whole day turned on laptop. I need to shutdown, move to another location and turn it on. That is the purpose of laptop isn't it.

How to install updates one by one or how to make some control like installing only 5 updates a time or similar?
Thanks

You can change the Windows update settings to check for updates and tell you about them but let you choose when to install them. If you do that, it will show you a list of updates with check-boxes against them. You can just choose the ones you want to install.

WSUS Offline Update. Download the updates to external media, then install all of them with automatic reboots as required and then continued update installation. Let it run all night. It WON'T give you a choice of updates but you'll get them all done on your schedule.

I have followed Nelviticus suggestion and start installing 20 updates at the time and this looks like a good solution. Thanks a lot for help.

My rule. Do Service packs 1st, then internet exploerer version update. The the rest.
No point patching ie8 if your going to put on 9 or 10 anyway.
