How to handle local recordsets in standalone CR 8.5

I would like to extract the data from database and then keep it in one record set. Based on the results in the recordset, I would like to go for second recordset with out hitting the database. Also there is a need that I would combine both to go for the third recordset for the results. Is it possible in Crystal Reports. How about data defnition files.. Is it easy to do.. Or we have other easy methods..

I need answers at the earliest.
