You mean you want to have a user create a record but then not update it in any way?
A clean approach mught be to use a callout to intercept an update event and abort it. In this way a user can create a record but any update event will fail

I guess i should have added some details to explain what i am trying to accomplish. If I have a salesperson create a quote in CRM, after the quote goes into an active status i want the ship to and bill to information to be grayed out so that they cannot change it before it gets converted to an order. We are using Scribe to send data back and forth from CRM to Great Plains and if the sales person changes the ship to or bill to information after the quote is generated to something other thatn what is in Great Plains the order will fail in Scribe. I want the information to be grayed out so that if something needs to be changed they will have to cancel the old quote and generate a new one with the proper information.
