Hi all,
I have a windows server 2003 enterprise edition and installed softwares on to it and are working fine,Now my concern is i have to make them available for the users sitting at some other locations.
I tried my best to get them the acess but failed to so,I referred all the information available on net but got so confused, now still dont know how to set up the acess remotely.
My idea is to give them a IP address of the server with the password set up to acess the server residing with me.
Please hlep me on this to set up the remote acess to them.
I made necessary remote desktop setup settings, remoivng firewalls etc.but others couldnt logon on to this.Error:contact Network adminstrator.I am the network admin person.
I ahve no idea about this termial logon and RDP wizard setup.
Can anyone guide on this/help on this please.??

Sounds like you need to use Terminal Services. You would need to change your server to a Terminal Server but you would need to purchase licensing.

Hi devBOWEB, I am assuming here that there is already netwpork connectivity between these 2 sites and that access to mail etc across sites works fine?
If so and you're only having issues with RDP/TS to the server then I'll try and help!
As dberg35 said above you would need to install the Terminal Services component from within add/remove programs control panel applet. I tihnk thats what it's called, too much time with 2008 now and everything's "a feature"!
You can install the Terminal Services component which will give you I think 120 days access via RDP/TS for an unlimited number of users.

After you've installed your TS you'll need to activate it, using a wizard and then you enter you license key from the Microsoft site. It's pretty straght forward. If you haven't got internet access form the server, run through the wizard and then go here from a PC that has internet access, to finish the activation process.

You then need to buy Client Access Licenses for this server.
There are 2 types:
User CAL - the license gets assigned to a user and moves with that user to multiple machines if they use multiple machines.
Device CAL - assigned to the device, the better option, if multiple users use the same device.
You'll need to decide which best suits your business.

You will also need to install the TS Licensing Component on a server. It can be the same server or a differet one, doesnt make any difference. Its onto which server server that you install TS Licensing that you install your CALs.

This should be enoguh for you to setup you TS.
1) Please confirm whether you can RDP to this server from the same site
2) Whether you have access to other services other than TS from the 2ns site you mentioned.

Cheers

You also should install the apps on the server AFTER you've made it a TS server. That way, registry entries, files, shortcuts and info get placed in the correct locations.

Good point Pat!
Wasn't there something in Add/Remove programs that installed applications "properly" on a Terminal Server?
I don't think I ever used it, but I'm sure it was there?

You either do it through the command line or just install it via the control panel. Either way, AFTER making it a Terminal Server.

IIRC, the last time I did it, I followed the command line method shown at
