How to get toner usage counter?

Hey Guys

I have an HP LJ9000 and at one time I saw that when the toner cartridge began to run low the printer would display a message on the display screen on the printer that said the toner was low but it would also give an estimate as to how many pages the toner had left before it would be empty. For some reason that stopped and I want to know if there is a way to get that back? I've looked in the book and I cant find anything. What is that feature called and has anyone else seen what I am talking about?
