How to get started with IMAP?

My server provider recently told me they had installed UW-IMAP on the server that I use. I know IMAP but I never worked with it. I tried to read the UW-IMAP documentation but it is very technical and server oriented.

I use MS Outlook as my mail client and I created a mail account to test the IMAP stuff. It seems to work, I can send emails, receive emails. But I cannot seem to take full advantage of it yet as I don't know how to configure it well.

I have some basic questions. May be the community can help by answering them or point me to a good, easy to understand manual for IMAP (I have not found one yet).

- I can create folders (Via MS Outlook) for my IMAP mail account but it looks as if I cannot make subfolders. Is that normal or is it just a setting somewhere that I need to adjust?

- When I send an email with outlook from my IMAP account it stores the email in the normal send folder of Outlook, not on the server side for the IMAP account. How can I make sure that emails send are also stored on the server side?

- When I deleted an email from my IMAP account Outlook crosses out that particular email but it does not move to the delete folder. Same when I manuall move an email to the delete folder. It still stays in the inbox but crossed out. How do I make sure that I do not see deleted folders in the IMAP inbox folder any more and move them automatically to the delete folder?

It would be great if somebody could point out to me where to get started to solve these problems.
