Hi, All expert

I am new AIX guy and trying to install SAMBA sw. My question: where can I get compiled samba file (not from samba.org) from internet? How can I move the downloaded file from my disk (windows platform) to RS/6000 machine (AIX platform)?
Yesterday I downloaded samba.2.2.2.tar.Z. When I uncompressed this file, I got following Error message:
uncompress: 0653-059 Teh input file contains bad data; SIGSEGV signal received. what does it mean?

Thanks in advance
jack

You probably transfered the file from your PC as a text file, NOT as binary.

Also, if you go to they have samba there in a nice AIX installp format with instructions on how to install and configure. You should find this version simplier to install as it requires less manual configuration.

I got the samba rpm install from the IBM site. Yes, I know that rpm is for linux, but IBM has starting porting some of the more useful linux apps to AIX (like samba). You need to get the rpm.rte to install the rpm packages, but then everything else should be easy. (Heck, if I can do it, you shouldn't have a problem).

Go to the IBM site and search on SAMBA and RPM. You will find a lot of info including installation instructions.

As far as configuring samba to work for your network, that is a different story. But the install was cake - version 2.2.3a-1.
