How to get number of items in dropdownlist???

Hello,
May be someone know how to delete all the items from dropdownlist. I do not know how many items it has, so there is a problem. I'm adding items automaticaly from DB and then in another request i need to delete all items from it and then to add again, but i do not know how to how to get number of items?

Will be very thankful for any help!
