Hi,

i want to use my ide travan in debian 3.0. i have built a new kernel with scsi-emulation and addes hdc=ide-scsi into the lilo append line how is needed for using it. but if i want to write on it the kernlel says /dev/nst0 is not a valid device.

so someone said to me i have to delete /dev/nst0 and build it new with mknod. it must show like mknod /dev/nst0 c major minor. but how to get the major and minor numbers for this device?

sorry for my bad english and spelling)

On my Mandrake box, in /usr/share/doc/MAKEDEV-3.3.1/devices.txt:
...
9 char SCSI tape devices
...
128 = /dev/nst0 First SCSI tape, mode 0, no rewind
129 = /dev/nst1 Second SCSI tape, mode 0, no rewind

I'm thinking 9 is the major, 128 is the minor. Should be a start in the right direction.
