We have a department that wants to send surveys to groups of people using a ColdFusion script. They want to be able to receive NDRs if any addresses are bad. Is there a way to do this? The email address they are using in the 'from' field is a valid mailbox, and they are sending through our SMTP gateway. We tested this using a PowerShell script and a known bad email address and got the same result - no NDR. Anyone have a suggestion I can pass on?

You will not know if it bounces because you are relaying through a SMTP gateway. The way around this would be to make a script that checks the inbox for the FROM: address and check for bounces.

baddos; We're actually using the address of an inbox we're monitoring. NDRs do not come to the inbox. It appears that when relaying through the gateway, the gateway will not generate NDRs for undeliverable messages. Is this correct?

It's possible the gateway is configured to not generate NDRs because of a spam fighting campaign by the sys admin.
