Hi,
I am using Mandrake 9 and WinXP. My internal modem works normally in WinXP, but I couldn't make it work in Mandrake, as a result, I couldn't connect to internet. I've checked, no /dev/modem directory exists. Is that mean I have to mount the modem? Can someone teach me how to do it? Thanks in advance.

If it is a Winmodem, you may not be able to use it. Linux doesn't know how to talk to it.

Assuming you have tried the internet connection wizard stuff in mandrake and it couldn't find your modem, it likely to be a winmodem.
Go back to your XP setup and find out what kind of modem this is (this is the easiest way for you)
Then go to and see what sort of support you are likely to find for your modem.
Most I have come across have been Conexant chipsets if you have the same then go straight here and start reading.
