How to get microphone speech data input?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows how exactly one would go about in C in Windows to get the input data from a microphone attached to the computer via the sound card microphone jack? Sort of like how the dummy sound recorder program that comes with Windows does it.

Hi,
Download the Speech SDK from Microsoft. I suspect it must have an API for recording from the microphone.

Can we somehow have an auditory delay using the SDK. By auditory delay, I mean that if a person X is speaking on the microphone, he will hear his voice after a delay, of say, 2 seconds.
