Hi all

Im sure this is simple but, I have a line that prints under the details in the detail section. If there are no details the lines do not print all the way to the page footer. I just found out that the empty lines need to print all the way down to the page footer (like ruled paper).
Can anyone point me to a source that would have the answer, or share their methods.

Much appreciated.

this "line" after the details...is it a footer of some kind?

You can force this line to print at the bottom of a page...it is an option in the Section Expert.

The line is drawn in the details section, just under the records. It creates a ruled page look to the document, but not all the way to the pager footer Yet.
Cr ver9 thanks

Have you tried right clicking on the line->format line->
extend to bottom of section when printing?

I don't have that option, I have "move to bottom section when printing" that dont work.
thanks

Sorry, I misunderstood--thought you were talking about a vertical line. One option would be to insert an additional page header section that extends the height of the page, and add multiple lines into that section to create the ruled sheet, using the grid as a guide. Then go to format section->page header_b and check "Underlay following sections."

I miss-understood too...still not so sure....Do you want to create a ruled page after the last detail section ... is that what you want?

That is not easy to do since during printing Crystal does not know where it is on a page. A lot depends on your detail section (and header/footer for that matter)...If Header/detail/footer sections are all the same size then a count formula could keep track of how many lines are printed and then in the page footer you can have several lined sections with several of them suppressed depending on the count.

However, rarely are the header/detail/footer sections the same size...if there are multiple groups on a page then the count becomes useless. Vertical line are ok since you just extend them into the Page footer....but horizontal lines....no-can-do.

Thanks guys! I am trying to print horizontal lines, as of now I have one that prints under each new detail row, that works great. The issue is when I have dont have enough detail rows to fill the page, Crystal just prints the rows it has and leaves the remainder of the details section blank. I am trying to have horizontal lines print throughout the details section all the way down to the page footer. This would appear to be "empty" rows having lines uder them.

I have never seen this done and at this point don't think it can be. The users don't like that answer one little bit.

thanks again for your time.

LB's underlying page header solution is your best (and maybe only) hope of doing it.

The only other way I think it could be done is if your result set is always padded with enough records to fill up a page. That couldn't be done in Crystal, but could be done in a stored procedure.

You haven't stated any technical info, so not sure if that's even an option.

This solution works, although it is a little tedious.

Create a horizontal lined page in MS Word (Ref:Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 211709).

Using LB's underlying page header solution above, insert a OLE DB object "from a file". Select the Word document and use it as a backround or watermark on every page.
Trick is getting the lined page created correctly spaced to work with the font on the report. This will work if you have the time.

LB Thanks! That seems to work just fine. Lots of trial an error, but if it works i am a happy guy.

Thanks everyone.
