how to get just a link to return-values ?

I know how to get the whole result-set as one and how to read the result line-by-line. But there must be a variant that just returns a link to the result - this would spare much time and space. I am working with MySQL ( that's why I write into this forum *g* ) and i hope that anyone knows an answer to it ...

What are you using as the interface to your MySQL database? The mysql monitor? PHP? MS Access/VBA?

well .. I write my own environment .... I just use mysql to access mysql-databases

So all I seek is a datatype or something to access perhaps the buffer of the client just to get this fu****** result as fast as possible at lowest costs
