Hello everyone,

I'm interested in getting into the development side of IT. I've been a System Admin for 4 years and I'm not sure how to get into development. I already spoke to my manager about my interest in development and he was very supportive.

I'm about to sign-up for an MCSD class but I'm unsure on how effective this class would be. I had C++ when I was in college (borland) and it was really bad. Should I try signing up for another class or should I just study on my own?

Please give me advise on how to approach this matter.

Cheers,

I think you would biting off too big of a chunk by signing up for a certified developer course when you haven't even done any developement. You probably wouldn't even know what they were talking about 75% of the time.
If your company is willing to pay for higher education, by all means take advantage of it! There are a lot of programming courses out there, not just from specialized training companies, but junior colleges, universities, etc., not to mention on line:

Get the basics down from a couple different languages, then decide what sort of programming you want to get into.

Just have to say how much I love this site.
I don't have anything to add to your post ponetguy2, the reply by DSummZZZ has helped me so much.
Thanks :)
