Does anyone know how to obtain the hostid
(mac address) in tck/tk without using the
[exec hostid] command?

I'm not currently aware of how to obtain a MAC address through pure Tcl code. Perhaps someone else knows of an extension that does?

But if what you're looking for is actually the IP address of your system, there are a couple of ways to do it. Look on the Tcl'ers Wiki ( at the page "how to find my own IP address," You might also want to check out the "DNS" page, - Ken Jones, President

Without calling exec or open, no, I don't think
there is.
Otherwise refining the output of arp -a and ipconfig /all
or like utilities , will give you the info you need.
