Since my server is elsewhere, and I didn't like the pc-client Xwindows packages, I'm not running a GUI on my Linux server. The problem is that, when I want to download files from a remote site that does not support FTP, I don't know how to get the file.

What I've been doing is: use Netscape on my home PC, download the file, then
upload to my server via FTP. I've sure there's a better way to do this ;(

Ne info appreciated.
Tx, Jim

Have you looked at Lynx, the text based browser ? I'm not certain that it'll do the job for you, but it sounds somewhere close.
Unfortunately if the site your going to is all "jazzed up" Lynx may not be able to cope with it anyway. Worth a look though. It may well be on the installation CD if yours is a recent version of LINUX. Ian

"IF" is not a word it's a way of life

Hi,

if you know the exact path to the desired file(s), wget is your friend!

ianf is right. Lynx will allow you to download files. At the command line type lynx You'll be able to use the arrow keys to move among the page...highlight the file and press enter to download. It isn't a graphical brower but it'll work.

Hope this helps you.

Hmm... think I went a bit crazy with that "let so and so know this post was helpful" link. ;)

Thanks for the help folks. I had forgotten all about Lynx. Used that back around
1992-93 I think ;) The wget is really nice, if you know the location.

Have a great Independence Day.

While lynx is helpfull, IMO wget is the way to go... it will grab multiple files in one shot with globbing, give it the html page with the links ya want and come back in a bit... everything is done :)
