Hi

I am trying to get backup to disk working. I have set up
a backup to disk folder as described in the admin guide.
Then I set up a job to backup to this folder. The job then
sits there in the monitor switching back and forth from
queued to loading media.

I have looked through the the admin guide and can't find
any reference to what media needs to be set up for this
type of operation.

Any suggestions or directions to information?
Cheers

First, you need to licesne this feature. File type devices and Adv_File type devices are bow licesned in version 7.x.

1. You create a folder
2. Then create device
3. Specify device type (ADV_File or File)
4. Create pool for disk device
5. Label and mount the device manually

Remember that there is no robotics to automate this label, mount, unmount, eject functions that you are used to with library.

6. start backup and it should go to disk providing the pool configuration either inlcuded an entry for "client" or "group", that would encompass the client whos backup should be going to disk.

Hope this helps.

Some more input on disk backup:

- Licensing is enforced with NW 7.0 and later
- A(n advanced) file device name is nothing else but a directory name.
- For the start, may i suggest that you do use a 'normal' file type device.
You can not read AND write at the SAME time but it its mechanism easier to understand.
And it will honour a pre-adjusted Vokume Default Capacity as well.
- You may create a separate pool but any existing pool will do the job.
Simply make sure that this is the only (mounted) media for that pool.
- In fact, Auto Media Management also works on a file device as on any other standalone
device. Just keep in mind that there is a 15 minute delay between the Pending message
appears and NW will actually label/mount the media. So using AMM will not show
what will as soon the backup will be started.

Also remember to add user name with password on disk type device and create a share on destination disk( server)with appropriate permisions
