I got a file the other day that was in docx format I downloaded a docx convertor but I must have clicked some option to make that the default, now all my old word files are in docx extension and as I unistalled the docx convertor I have to right click on the old files that are now all new docx files and choose the open with microsoft word option. How do I get it back to the way it was please ?

Thank you

Hi,

You need to use the Office button in the top left corner of the screen.

Open it, and at the bottom you should see Word Options.

Click here, and look for Save on the left, and you will find it on this page which may scroll.

Good luck!

I don't think that will work, since the OP does not appear to have Word 2007 or 2010, or they would not have needed to download the compatibility pack ...

Hi,

I assumed you were using Word 2007, but then you would not have needed to have downloaded the converter!

It would help if you told us what version of Word you were using!

As nothing before Word 2007 knew of the docx format, it sounds as though the converter may have something to do with your problem. It seems that it is unlikely to be in a pre 2007 version of Word.

As a home user every time I receive a docx file I explain the problem to the usually uninformed home user and request a doc version of the document, along with how to create doc files.

Hope someone can help you.

Good Luck!

Hi zickler,

reinstall the converter, open a document with word, then:
=>Tools->Options, switch to the "Save" tab.
At the bottom of the dialog, you'll find the "default format" section. There you can set "Save Word files as" back to "Word document (doc)".

Hope that solves it.

Cheers,
